Welcome
Welcome to the official site of the Ogeechee Rifles, Camp #941 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans!
On 29 November 1990 the Ogeechee Rifles, Camp 941, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Statesboro, Georgia was chartered in a ceremony held in the courtroom of the Bulloch County Court House. Approximately twenty men were inducted into the camp and signed the charter. Peter Winn Martin was the first Camp Commander. The "Ogeechee Rifles" name came from a Confederate unit from Screven County, Georgia. Men from Bulloch, Screven, Evans, and Candler Counties organized the Camp. Because the Ogeechee Rifles borders two of these counties, it was deemed best to name the camp for a geographic location rather than the name of a person or county. The members of Camp 941 meet every third Thursday at RJ’s Steak and Seafood where we listen to speakers discussing Confederate History and Southern Heritage. When not listening to these lectures the Camp members are busy with other tasks which further the cause of the SCV Charge.
The Ogeechee Rifles is just one of many Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps within the Great State of Georgia. But, in the Ogeechee Rifles you will find a unique sense of brotherhood and shared heritage and history that cannot be found to the same degree anywhere else. The men who make up our Camp love our State and the Southland, the history and heritage and culture which make this beloved region of these United States so different and such a wonderful place to live.
